Acetate Ribbon: The stiff paper-like ribbon that is most associated with floral arrangements.
Organza or Organdy Ribbon: Two names for the polyester sheer ribbon often used in craft and bridal applications.
Curling Ribbon: Coated ribbons that when a sharp object (like a scissor edge) is drawn against it acquires the shape like a pigs tail.
Grosgrain Ribbon: A woven ribbon that has the crosswise ribs that gives it a crisp appearance.
Iridescent Ribbon: Any type of ribbon with a pearlized effect revealing different colors depending on the light or angle that the ribbon is viewed at.
Moiré Ribbon: A ribbon with a watermarked or rippling appearance.
Jacquard Ribbon: A ribbon produced on a loom that has a distinct pictorial effect. Usually this ribbon has a distinct “right” and “wrong” side because of this “embroidery” effect.
Pull String Ribbon: Any type of ribbon that has string “sewn” into the ribbon that when you pull on the sewn string, it automatically forms into some shape of bow. This type is especially nice for those with little or no bow making experience or those on a strict time budget.
Satin Ribbon: A soft ribbon with a very shiny effect on at least one side.
Single Faced Ribbon: A shiny satin ribbon on one side with a matte side on the other.
Double Faced Ribbon: A soft satin ribbon that is shiny on both the front and back side of the ribbon.
Taffeta Ribbon: Also know as Sand Paper Ribbon. A lightweight ribbon that has a body to it and has a rough feel to the ribbon.
Velvet Ribbon: A tight woven ribbon with a low cut pile on the front side and a plain smooth underside.
Wire or Wired Edged Ribbon: Fine wires are placed at the edges of the ribbon so that easily molding of the ribbon is achieved once the ribbon is placed into the shape desired.
